The original sminthurus was drawn by An-Ly Yao from a slide photo, probably in 1986. She found the slide in a collection of the Academia Sinica in Taipei. For comparison with other drawings you can have look at An-Ly's drawing here:

I found two other drawings from that slide in the web. One drawing is used in Karl-Heinz Mellert's excellent pages (in German) on using collembola as bio indicators for forest soils. With regard to the drawings he refers to Eisenbeis and Wichard (1985). But, e.g. for the 1st sections of the legs, An-Ly's drawing still is slightly better. Mellert's page also shows a nice drawing of a jumping springtail:

A more coarse drawing is part of Patrizia Dall'Aras Collembola pages (in Italian). Her source was a drawing in a publication of A. Palissa in 1964 (Die Tierwelt Mitteleuropas. Insekten I. Teil Apterygota, IV. Band Lief 1a., Verlag von Quelle & Meyer in Leipzig, pp. 407):

The slide must have been taken in 1964 or earlier. Any hints, who took the photo? If you have more information about that source, please mail to goetz@smipp.com.
